How to Watch Legally
- JioHotstar: Filter → Malayalam → 7 titles, 5 have Hindi dub (check Audio tracks).
- SonyLIV: Bramayugam, 2018 are Malayalam-only with Eng subs (no Hindi).
- Prime: Aavesham, Premalu have Hindi dub within 14 days of OTT premiere.
Top 5 Picks — Detailed (Why They Rank Here)
1. Manjummel Boys (JioHotstar, 8.5): Survival thriller based on Guna caves rescue. 5-audio (Mal/Hin/Tam/Tel/Kan) + 4K on Premium. Watch Hindi dub if you missed theatre — same thrill, cleaned audio. If you like this, try 2018 (same director scale) on SonyLIV.
2. Aavesham (Prime, 7.7): Fahadh Faasil college action-comedy. Hindi dub added 14 days after premiere — check Audio row, early viewers saw Mal-only. Prime 4K + 5.1. Pair with Premalu (same Prime subscription) for back-to-back comedy night.
3. Bramayugam (SonyLIV, 7.8): B&W folk horror, Malayalam-only + Eng subs. No Hindi dub planned — watch original with subs for Mammootty’s voice design. Needs SonyLIV Premium, not Mobile (Mobile blocks TV for cinematic B&W).
4. Premalu (JioHotstar, 7.9): Rom-com with Mal/Tam/Tel audios. Hindi dub delayed 3 weeks — now present. JioHotstar Super ₹499 enough (1080p). No need Premium.
5. 2018 (SonyLIV, 8.0): Flood survival epic, Mal/Hin audios. Best on TV (1080p, SonyLIV has no 4K for this title). Watch before Manjummel Boys for Kerala survival double-feature.
All five are covered by JioHotstar Super + Prime + SonyLIV annual — see Cheapest OTT for combo math.

Frequently Asked Questions

JioHotstar Super/Premium — Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada audios + Eng subs. Not on Netflix.
Is Malayalam available in Hindi dub?
Top 2024 hits (Manjummel Boys, Aavesham, Neru) have Hindi within 2 weeks. Mid-budget SonyLIV titles are Mal-only.

Are Malayalam movies in 4K?
5/20 are 4K (JioHotstar Premium + Prime). SonyLIV Malayalam caps at 1080p. Don’t buy 4K tier for SonyLIV Malayalam alone.
Do Malayalam hits get Hindi dubs quickly?
Top hits (Manjummel Boys, Aavesham, Premalu) get Hindi in 14 days on Prime/JioHotstar. Mid-budget SonyLIV titles stay Mal-only + Eng subs — watch original for best performances.
Do I need SonyLIV if I have Prime + JioHotstar?
Yes for 2 titles — Bramayugam and 2018 are SonyLIV exclusive (no Hindi, Mal-only). Borrow SonyLIV Mobile for one month to cover both, then cancel. No need annual SonyLIV for Malayalam alone.
